ABOUT US
SEDPI

In 2004, SEDPI embarked on a six-year strategic plan from 2005-2010. Considering the size of the organization then, management decided to target an outreach of 500 organizations working in the field of microfinance. Three years hence, SEDPI has already surpassed this target and was able to reach out to 502 organizations coming from Africa, Asia, Latin America and Europe as of November 2007.

The achievement of the organizational outreach was due to SEDPI’s facilitation of the strategic partnership established between the Bank of the Philippine Islands and the Ateneo de Manila University. The partnership enabled trainings to be delivered in key cities all over the Philippines. Training events organized with the Peoples Credit and Finance Corporation and other regional network microfinance councils of the events also contributed much to the attainment of the goal.

In November 2006, SEDPI delivered its first training abroad. Oxfam-Novib commissioned its services to conduct a training on the Fundamentals and Methodologies of Microfinance to diaspora organizations. A follow up training on Financial Literacy to the same group was conducted on June 2007. Due to the success of the financial literacy delivered to migrants originally coming from Asia, Africa and Latin America, SEDPI will again deliver the course covering a wider scope of European countries – Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg and Italy.

Likewise, the Central Bank of Nigeria had the Ateneo Microfinance Diploma Course conducted to its management staff on March and September of 2007. SEDPI was also invited to provide input to the International Network of Alternative Financial Institutions (INAFI) in its experts meeting held in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso. SEDPI’s President and CEO moderated the remittance workshop of INAFI held in Cotonou, Benin. Finally, as a member of the remittance working group of the European Microfinance Platform, SEDPI was invited to share its experience in mobilizing investments from migrants and implementing financial education for both remittance receivers and senders in Luxembourg.

For 2007 alone, SEDPI was able to deliver 70 training events, of which 24 public-run and 46 were customized to microfinance institutions. A total of 1,357 participants attended the training. SEDPI was also able to develop five new training courses expanding its curriculum to a total of 22 training courses. Participants used a rating scale to evaluate the trainings they have attended from 1 (very poor) to 5 (excellent). The facilitators were evaluated as excellent with an average rating of 4.57 while training sessions were evaluated as very good at 4.29.
